WAGE$
Child Care WAGE$® Program
The Child Care WAGE$® Program provides education-based salary supplements to early childhood educators, helping improve workforce stability and the quality of care for young children. By linking higher compensation to increased levels of education, WAGE$® encourages teachers to further their professional development, remain in their current positions, and enhance the learning experiences of the children they serve.
Key Features:
Incentives for Education and Retention: Through salary supplements, WAGE$® directly rewards educators who advance their education, fostering a stable and experienced workforce in early childhood settings.
Improving Quality for Young Learners: When teachers are better compensated and more likely to stay in their roles, children benefit from consistent, nurturing relationships and enriched early learning experiences.
Supported by Local Partners: The program is funded by participating local Smart Start partnerships, ensuring that resources stay within the community and meet the needs of local children and families.
Eligibility Requirements: To qualify, educators must work at least 10 hours per week with children from birth to age five in a licensed child care program, and must earn less than a set income threshold. Supplements are issued every six months, based on a teacher’s verified level of education.
